Pixel art i mosaic
My project explores the lifecycle of material and the visual origins of the digital era. I use thousands of small (2x2 cm) ceramic mosaic tiles from the 1940s, retrieved from Lake Ivö, acting as "physical pixels". With these, I recreate 8-bit graphics and digital folklore on raw wooden boards—a dialogue between industrial history, nature, and contemporary life. A central piece, Honey Bunny Protects Life, depicts a pink creature with a weapon, dedicated to women defending life today. The exhibition includes an interactive dimension: Pixel Life. The physical works act as animated sprites in a 2D video game (previously supported by Inter Arts Center/Region Skåne) exploring time and dopamine loops. The mosaic panels and video projections are highly modular, creating a tactile contrast to Sockerbruket’s industrial architecture. The works can be wall-mounted or integrated freestanding within the space. ENGLISH This project is an ongoing artistic research and remains open to transformation and expansion. New works, materials and spatial interpretations continue to emerge as the artist reflects on migration, memory and the relationship between digital structures and physical reality. The process itself becomes an essential part of the project’s meaning, emphasizing movement, change and the unfinished nature of contemporary experience.
