# How to Improve Video Quality: Basic Steps for Creating Content Today we will talk about practical steps you can take to improve the quality of the videos you create. This is a short training guide that is not tied to any specific format — such as TikTok, Reels, or informational videos. Instead, it provides universal recommendations that can be applied to almost any type of video content. We will not focus on technical platform-specific requirements. The main goal is to concentrate on the content production process itself — in other words, how to improve the final visual result. As a co-owner and creative director of a creative agency, I work with photo and video production, graphic design, and branding. I am also involved in filming and occasionally in design, but primarily I manage production processes and creative direction. --- ## Preparing for Filming The preparation stage is crucial. It begins when you first have an idea or task and continues until the actual filming starts. ### Storyboarding A storyboard is essentially a “film on paper.” It allows you to plan your video in detail before production begins. Storyboarding helps you: * understand the structure of your video * define the required resources and props * prepare locations and characters * plan the shooting schedule Typically, a storyboard includes: * shot number * duration * shot size * camera movement * character movement * location and action description This document is especially valuable when working in a team, as it ensures that everyone shares the same visual understanding of each shot. --- ## Types of Shots There are three main shot types used in video production. ### Close-up Focuses on details such as a face, hands, or objects. ### Medium shot The most commonly used shot. It is ideal for dialogues and core action scenes. ### Wide shot Shows the environment and establishes where the action takes place. New scenes often begin with a wide shot to introduce the viewer to the context. --- ## Framing Avoid cropping people at joints such as: * elbows * knees * neck * waist It is better to frame between these points to maintain visual harmony. Background elements should also be considered. Strong lines or contrasting shapes behind a subject may visually “cut” the person in the frame. --- ## The Rule of Thirds The frame can be divided into a grid of nine equal parts. Key subjects should be positioned along these lines or at their intersections. It is also important to leave space in the direction a character is looking or moving. This creates balance and improves visual storytelling. --- ## The 180-Degree Rule This rule is essential when filming dialogues. An imaginary line is drawn between two characters, and the camera should remain on one side of this axis. Breaking this rule may confuse viewers about spatial relationships within the scene. --- ## The 30-Degree Rule When changing to a closer shot, it is recommended to move the camera approximately 30 degrees. This helps create smoother and more natural editing transitions. --- ## The Kuleshov Effect The meaning of a scene is often created through editing. The same facial expression can convey different emotions depending on the following shot: * hunger — if the next shot shows food * love — if the next shot shows a romantic interest This demonstrates how visual storytelling can replace dialogue. --- ## Leading Lines Architectural elements, roads, or objects can form visual lines that guide the viewer’s attention toward the main subject. Recognizing and using these lines effectively enhances composition and narrative clarity. --- ## Color Palette Warm tones typically evoke: * joy * comfort * nostalgia Cool tones often suggest: * loneliness * tension * drama It is also advisable to remove distracting bright objects from the background to maintain visual consistency. --- ## Shooting on a Smartphone Using professional camera apps such as **Blackmagic Camera** is recommended. These apps allow you to: * control white balance * select video quality * monitor audio levels * adjust camera parameters --- ## Editing For desktop editing, **Adobe Premiere Pro** is a powerful and versatile solution suitable for projects of any complexity. ### Common Editing Transitions * **Hard cut** — a simple cut between shots * **J-cut / L-cut** — audio transitions that overlap shots * **Jump cut** — indicates a time shift * **Match cut** — connects visually similar objects between scenes * **Smash cut** — a sudden shift in mood or pacing --- ## Useful Tools and Services ### Adobe Podcast Helps remove background noise such as wind, traffic, or crowd sounds. ### AI Voiceover Services Allow creators to generate high-quality voiceovers quickly and efficiently. ### Freepik A versatile platform offering: * stock photos * stock videos * design resources * AI-generated visuals ## Як покращити якість відео: базові кроки створення контенту Сьогодні ми поговоримо про те, які кроки можна зробити, щоб покращити якість відео,
