Artwork is part of the "Kitchen of Muses" series. Modern ceramic tile, historical Hugo Gehlin ceramics (c. 1948) The title plays on the ancient concept of the "Museum" as the home of the muses, reimagining it as a "kitchen"—an active, raw space where new ideas are cooked and brewed. The piece is constructed on a stark contrast of times: a glossy, modern red ceramic tile serves as the canvas for a composition made from historical shards, originally intended for Swedish artist Hugo Gehlin’s monumental 1940s mosaic. By reassembling these fragmented materials of the past, Loyko forms minimalist, pixel-like representations of everyday subjects, such as Surfer . The bold modern background acts as a digital screen, isolating the figure in space and elevating a fleeting slice of life into a conceptual ceramic artifact.
